Let's Go! Takes 5-2-1-0 to School
Feature School:
Windham Primary School, Windham, Maine
Our school has focused on the physical activity aspect of the 5-2-1-0 initiative. We were lucky enough to be chosen as the host site for the Harvard Pilgrim kick off event in early October. Our entire school did a healthy walk around the track and carried posters about healthy practices. The second exciting event that occurred was the snowshoe community grant which allowed our staff and students to get outside all winter long and enjoy games, nature walks, and daily participation on the track. We also had a chance for staff to be trained in GPS so that students can participate in geo caching with their school and families. Classroom presentations were given about hand made snowshoes from a real expert from Fort Kent! The 5-2-1-0 team is currently in the process of building a storage shed for keeping recess equipment to enhance physical activity options during inside and outside recesses at our school. Students have voted on what equipment will be purchased for these physical activities.
