Let’s Go!
Evaluation
There are three main components to the ongoing Let’s Go! evaluation:
- A telephone survey conducted biennially to parents of children age 18 and under in Greater Portland to measure awareness of Let’s Go! and 5210, as well as knowledge and behaviors related to healthy eating and active living.
- Sector surveys: Every spring, we survey Let’s Go! schools, after school programs, early childhood programs and healthcare practices to measure the environmental and policy changes that are occurring to support increased physical activity and healthy eating in these sites. We also measure how many sites are sustaining the changes they have made. Additionally, these surveys help us determine if we have met the goals for each sector that we set at the beginning of each program year.
- Measurement of overweight/obesity prevalence: In 2006 and 2009, we collected data from 15 pediatric practices in Southern Maine to determine the prevalence of overweight and obesity for patients aged 3-18. This data will be collected again in the future and we will look at trends in BMI rates and compare to national data.
