Community Mini-Grants

The purpose of Let’s Go!’s Community Mini-Grant Program is to advance promising interventions as part of the Let’s Go! community effort to promote physical activity and healthy eating  with a direct focus on policy and environmental changes

Below is a brief summary of projects that were awarded Let's Go! Community Mini-Grants during FY10 (July 2009-June 2010) and FY09 (July 2008-June 2009).

FY2010 Community Mini-Grant Recipients

Town Organization Project
Cape Elizabeth Cape Nordic Re-grade and repair problem areas throughout the Gull Crest Trail System.
Gorham First Parish Congregational Church, UCC 5-2-1-0 Goes to Church pilot. Incorporates physical activity games (Dance Praise, Veggies Tales Dance Dance Danceand Wii Fit) into church groups and promotes healthy eating and physical activity.
Portland, South Portland and Westbrook Abundant Life Institute partnering with Living With Peace Cultural dancing program for children from, or who's parents are from, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda and Burundi. The program will include healthy snacks at trainings and performances and creation and performance of a play about good nutrition in May 2010.
Greater Portland Area WinterKids Develop a Winter-themed StoryWalk of the book Snow Day!  Promote and loan the StoryWalk to local K-3 school classes.

 

FY2009 Community Mini-Grant Recipients

Town Organization Project
Falmouth Town of Falmouth Falmouth Conservation Corps initiative to build and maintain local trails and increase volunteer participation in trail work.
Freeport Casco Bay Regional YMCA Trail building project that incorporates StoryWalk concept.
Portland City of Portland and Healthy Portland Places to Play map production, Compass Project (in collaboration with the Parks and Recreation Department), and water cooler installation in schools.
Westbrook Westbrook School District Prides Corner trail project.
