Alexander Elementary students prepare for a day of learning with a little physical activity.
Every morning all 74 Alexander Elementary School (AES) students and the ten school staff enter the gymnasium at 8:30 in preparation for their daily physical activity program. Staff know that getting kids to exercise before class is beneficial to their learning abilities as well as a necessary step in keeping their children healthy. Teachers take turns coordinating the morning physical activity breaks and students have the opportunity to participate in a coordinated dance activity, walk the perimeter of the gym or play a variety of movement games. The AES Healthy Snack Store opens every day from 10 – 10:20 am. Students line up at the cafeteria door to purchase their healthy snack. Participation is more than 50 per cent.
