Let’s Go! Takes 5-2-1-0 to School was introduced by Principal Dawn Carrigan at September's Open House. The Longfellow Wellness Team continues to provide updates and create opportunities for staff to become more aware of 5-2-1-0. A 5-2-1-0 kick off assembly for students was held in January. Mrs. Gildart’s fourth grade students made posters for each of the four 5-2-1-0 messages and Mr. Johnson’s fifth grade students opened the assembly with skits promoting Eat Right, Be Active, Get Healthy. The assembly closed with physical activity lead by music teacher, Mrs. Ciechomski. Classroom teachers continue to use the toolkit and flipcharts to support their teaching. Healthier options are being offered in the vending machine and Kim Norbert, a nutritionist from Hannaford Bros. Co., is coming to speak to students about portion size and healthy snacks. Students in K-3 will receive the 5 a day bracelets to track their daily fruit and veggie intake. In May, Longfellow School’s PTO Program Committee will continue promoting the 5-2-1-0 message with a walk around Baxter Boulevard.
