5-2-1-0 champion and PE teacher Frank DeFranscesco kicked 5-2-1-0 off with a bang! Narragansett held an outstanding health fair in January that drew over 500 people! Participants had the opportunity to the get outside with ice skating, snowshoeing, and a Let's Go! storywalk. For those who preferred to stay warm, nine classrooms were set up with different physical activity stations including Zumba, Irish Step, and the Brain Gym. Everyone learned about the 5-2-1-0 message and really enjoyed the opportunity to bring parents, kids, teachers, and community members together. Each month, Mr. DeFranscesco highlights a different number of the 5-2-1-0 message in PE class. Other teachers have the option of doing more in their classrooms. Ms. Alves second grade classroom have pen pals at the elementary school on Peaks Island and they were excited to learn that we are both 5-2-1-0 schools! It has since been a hot topic of conversation between the two schools. Mr. DeFranscesco will help wrap things up in May when students, parents and siblings will have the opportunity to take a pledge that they will try to live by the 5-2-1-0 principles. Everyone who makes the pledge will received a 5-2-1-0 bracelet to help keep the message in the forefront of their minds!
