Get A Load of These Raised Beds! What A Beautiful & Bounteous Garden.
All four schools in the Yarmouth district joined Let’s Go! in the beginning of the 2007 school year. Now in their second year, the Yarmouth Schools have a lot to be proud of. Healthy changes have been made at each school. Two of the greatest successes have been spearheaded by the School Nutrition Program. Becki Schreiber, Director of School Nutrition, dreamed of having a garden that students, parents, and the community could all have their hands in. In collaboration with the School Nutrition Program, the County Extension Master Gardeners, local farmers, and other community members, Yarmouth Elementary School has a stunning garden that not only provides food for school lunches, but also acts as a learning laboratory for all students. The Yarmouth garden is something that staff and students will benefit from for a long time. In addition to the garden, some changes have been made in the cafeteria. With support from the district wide wellness committee, a concerted effort has been made to increase healthy food options and a long term plan has been established. Keep up the good work, Yarmouth!
