Young students enjoy the Crab Crawl activity.
The Young School Kid Fit Program is underway! All students at Young School receive six 20 minute sessions with a trainer from Saco Sport and Fitness. The students experience circuit training to build endurance and strength. They are also learning about warming up the body, cooling down, and stretching through Yoga and Pilates. Some of the favorite circuit activities have been scooter relays, crab walks, jump roping, push-ups, jumping jacks, mountain climbers, and wall ball bounce. Some of the kids’ favorite Yoga poses are cat, cow, down dog, snake, volcano breath, boat pose, and star!
Young School staff gets fit too! They have started an after school fitness circuit for staff two afternoons a week. From this program, staff are exercising, releasing stress, and also bringing some of the exercises back into their classroom to try with students. Staff has also have the opportunity to do 20 minute Yoga sessions once a week before or after school. The yoga is for staff and to also bring back to classrooms to use with students.
